Go in Peace, Glorifying the Lord by Your Life

--The Roman Missal, Third Edition

Greetings from Our Lady of Perpetual Help!

We are excited to be part of a groundbreaking initiative to reestablish relationships and reconnect you to the current happenings of our beloved school.  We have heard so many wonderful stories from alumni we are in touch with and this effort is aimed at connecting with more of you so that we ensure all alumni remain part of our school family.  We have a number of additional upcoming events.  Student artwork was exhibited in our annual Art Show on April 30, 2016.  Our Annual Wine Tasting event which will be held on May 14, 2016.  As well as our finalist of our annual Speech Contest will be presenting May 19, 2016.  Each year we welcome alumni to come back and join us for these events.  If you have not visited the campus recently, we invite you to come by.  We would love to give you a tour.  You are also welcome to join us every Friday at 8:30am for our weekly Mass.

Catholic Schools Week Celebrations

We would like to invite all of our families, friends, and supporters to attend our next Catholic Schools Week Celebration.  Plan to join our current OLPH students at the 5 p.m. Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in January 2017 to honor 2017's distinguished graduate.  Beginning at 6:30 p.m. you can also come and visit our school, where we will be hosting an open house to welcome current, former, and future Trojans to our school, and to welcome all of our supporters and neighbors who have been such an important part of our school's success.  It will be a wonderful time to catch up with old friends, or make new ones.

In 1948 Our Lady's School was established in Downey, California by the Sisters of Notre Dame.  In 1998 O.L.P.H. celebrated with the theme "50 Years of Educational Excellence Bringing Three Generations Closer to God."   During 2002 it was the All-Class Reunion that brought us together once again, and In 2008 it was the school's 60th anniversary.

Please check your class home page by clicking on the "Classes" button for your classmates and their current e-mail addresses.  Use the "Contact" button to keep your contact information current.  Please include your name and addresses along with your class year.  Should you have a class photo that is not on the Web site, please attach it to an email and send to the Webmaster at ron.zurek@me.com

Our last reunion celebration in 2002

Our first All-Class Reunion and Sunday brunch was held on September 29, 2002 at the Rio Hondo Country Club, 10627 Old River School Road, Downey, California from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.  The 9:30 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church that morning was dedicated to the alumni.  The school was open to viewing after Mass and before the brunch.  You may view photos of the reunion by clicking on the "Photos" button.

In order to comply with changed California State safety laws, our parish school needed to replace the aging playground equipment.  The equipment was over 40 years old and many of you have used it throughout the years.  Through various financial assistance from foundations, alumni, fundraisers, local businesses, and school and parish families, the dream was realized in a ceremony on Friday, November 22, 2002 when the school invited the students, faculty and staff in celebrating the dedication of the new equipment.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help School opened on September 13, 1948 in temporary quarters with a staff of three Sisters of Notre Dame.  There were 124 students in grades one through six.  Eight classrooms were built the following year and eventually eight more were built.  Beginning in 1971, one class was phased out each year.  In 1976, a kindergarten was added and several empty classrooms were made into labs.  Since the school year 1979-1980, single grades include students in K through 8.
